Seabird Rescue offers educational tours
Australian Seabird Rescue is conducting educational tours every day throughout January at the ASR Centre in Ballina.
ASR volunteer Rochelle Ferris said: “The scheduled guided tours have been formed in response to a rise in public interest, especially during the holiday season.
“These months are the busiest time for marine turtle rescues and are particularly busy this year in light of the recent stormy weather and rough sea conditions.
“Our tours present the perfect opportunity to inform the public about important conservation issues and allow them to see ASR facilities and the animals now in care.”
The tour includes an hour-long informative talk on topics such as the life cycle of marine turtles, threats to the survival of marine wildlife and ways you can make a difference.
In addition, visitors will be taken on a guided tour of the ASR Centre to have an up-close look of the animals currently receiving care.
Presently ASR has three marine turtles, two shearwaters, a crested tern and a pelican undergoing rehabilitation.
The tours will be held daily at 10am throughout January and cost $5 for adults. Children are invited to attend free of cost. Bookings may be made by phoning (02) 6686 2852.
