Police on the flood-affected NSW Far North Coast are appealing for anyone seeking information about road closures or road conditions to contact the Roads and Traffic Authority.
Police stations in the region have been inundated with phone calls from people in Queensland and other parts of northern NSW, inquiring about road closures or likely dates that flood-affected roads will reopen.
Officers at one police station received more than 200 phone calls about road closures in a three-hour period this morning, and police say these inquiries have placed a major strain on local resources.
All inquiries about flood-affected roads or road conditions on the Pacific Highway are to be directed to the NSW Roads and Traffic Authority on 132-701.
Information can also be obtained from the RTA website www.rta.nsw.gov.au
