Saffin to inspect flood damage
The Federal Member for Page, Janelle Saffin, will be flown around Northern Rivers flood areas today by the Regional SES Commander to view the extent of the flooding first hand.
Ms Saffin says she is grateful that there has been no loss of life in the floods and she has praised the efforts of the local SES who have co-ordinated the rescue and relief efforts .
On the weekend Ms Saffin and the NSW Roads Minister Eric Roozendaal visited the Richmond Tweed Regional SES Headquarters for a briefing on the extent of the flooding and the relief effort
“Once again the local SES volunteers have worked incredibly hard to keep people safe during a natural disaster. The SES co-ordination along with other State and local government services has been remarkable,” Ms Saffin said.
“I also want to pay tribute to the media for paying their part in keeping residents and visitors safe, by providing up-to-date information.”
Ms Saffin said she welcomed the Premier’s visit to the area today and said Federal, State and local governments are offering support to the area.
” I have been in touch with local mayors and will be contacting local State MPs so that we are all working together to do what we can for affected communities,” she said.
Ms Saffin sais this is the third time in just over three months that parts of the region have been declared a natural disaster area.
“Once again the people of Page have shown how resilient and generous we are in testing times. I also want to welcome all the holidaymakers who have come to the area and stuck it out with us, in what we still know is the world’s best address,” Ms Saffin said.
