Ballina Shire Australia Day celebrations:
Ballina: The Australia Day celebrations start at 4pm with a performance by the Ballina Shire Concert Band.
Free billy tea and damper will be served by the Ballina Scope Club from 4.30pm to 5.30pm.
The flag will be raised, and Ballina’s Australia Day Ambassador, former Olympic boxer Rick Timperi, will arrive between 5.30pm and 5.45pm.
A citizenship ceremony will follow and the Australia Day awards will be presented from 6.30pm.
Rob Saric will provide entertainment from 7pm, the Samba Blisstas drumming group will perform from 8pm, and fireworks, presented by the Ballina RSL Club, will be at 8.30pm.
Other activities: Northern Rivers Trike & Bike Tours, from $10 per person (bookings 0407 516 669); Baysail sailing tours from the wharf every hour from 12.30pm to 5.30pm, tickets $15 adults and $10 child (bookings 1300 857 443); free kids’ hair spraying at the Comfort Inn All Seasons Activity Centre from 2.30pm to 5.30pm; Headland Vineyard Christian Fellowship will provide free face painting from 2.30pm to 5.30pm; Richmond River Cruises will hold an afternoon tea cruise from 3pm to 5pm and a fireworks cruise from 7pm to 9pm, tickets cost $25 adults, $12 child (bookings 1800 777 666).
There will be sailing and racing on the Richmond River from 1.30pm co-ordinated by the Richmond River Sailing and Rowing Club.
Lennox Head: Lennox Head Lions Club will hold a barbecue breakfast in the village from 7am.
Wardell: The Social Golf Club will hold a breakfast followed by a round of golf from 7am.
Alstonville: A barbecue will be held at the House With No Steps, Wardell Road, Alstonville, from 10am to 4pm, with lots of prizes.
Popular soul singer Lisa Hunt will perform at the Ballina RSL Cl.ub from 9.15pm.

Can we put a right hand margin on this blog so that the words don’t go right up to the left hand edge of the categories column- it makes it very hard to read as the brain thinks that the column is covering some of the words.
