The vehicle used in the raid had been reported stolen from Linderman Street, West Ballina. The theft is believed to have taken place a short time before or after midnight.

The same vehicle was also seen early this morning near a service station on the Pacific Highway at Ballina.

A 39-year-old Albury woman was sitting outside the restaurant when a man approached her and grabbed her handbag.

He jumped into a passenger seat of a white Holden Commodore. The vehicle began travelling east along the Pacific Highway.

The man who boarded the car is described as Aboriginal in appearance and of slim build. He is believed to be in his early 20s. He was wearing a grey hooded sloppy joe with an emblem on the back, red shorts and white joggers.

Police recovered the vehicle used in the incidents at about 2.25am today (25 January). It was located in the middle of Porter Park, West Ballina. The car has been towed to Ballina Police Station for finger printing.
