Sports grants worth $44,000 announced

Member for Ballina Don Page today announced that four local sporting projects had received a total of $44,000 in funding under the Department of Sport and Recreation’s 2007/08 Capital Assistance Program.

Mr Page said the popular sports grants scheme assisted with the establishment and enhancement of facilities across a range of recreational activities.

The successful recipients were:

Ballina Junior Rugby League received $15,000 for an upgrade of electrical lighting supply at Kingsford Smith Park;

Mullumbimby Tennis Association received $14,000 for an upgrade of surfaces of two tennis courts at Mullumbimby Recreational Ground;

Ballina Touch Football Association received $10,000 for an upgrade of lighting at Saunders Oval; and

Le-Ba Boardriders Incorporated received $5,000 for the purchase of a trailer for sporting equipment.

“These grants are matched dollar for dollar by the individual sporting groups who have demonstrated their ability to financially contribute to their particular project,” Mr Page said.

“This funding will be well-received by the successful applicants and keen sports people in the community.”
