Concerns raised over Next G service: Saffin

Some nice whiting and bream at the entrance around the North Wall on worms, prawns, pipis and yabbies. The odd flathead as well. Still too bumpy outside.
Beaches are starting to produce salmon and some tailor. Whiting off the southern beaches are going OK on worms.

Aboriginal women tell their stories in new book

The unique historical perspective of Aboriginal women along the lower Richmond River is captured in a new book, published by the Department of Environment and Climate Change (DECC).
DECC Aboriginal Heritage Conservation Officer, Ashley Moran, said that the book tells the stories of 12 Aboriginal women from Cabbage Tree Island and Ballina.

Our beaches have copped a hammering over the past fortnight of onshore winds and rain.
The water is dirty and smelly, and there’s plenty of logs and other rubbish washed up on the beaches.
Today the swell has dropped, but it’s a messy four foot and there’s an onshore blowing.

Seniors groups get funding

Five Ballina Electorate organisations have been awarded funding under the 2008 NSW Seniors Week Grants Program, Ballina MP Don Page announced today.
Mr Page said the programs would be held during NSW Seniors Week from 6-13 April 2008.

Beach users asked to be alert for pied oystercatcher

Throughout the school holidays beach users between South Ballina and Shark Bay are asked to be alert for the threatened pied oystercatchers and to drive responsibly at all times.
