WA body identified as missing Alstonville man

The mystery of a man who was found deceased in a tent near Southern Cross in Western Australia in November 2005 has finally been solved, with the WA Missing Persons Unit confirming that the man is a reported missing person from Alstonville, New South Wales.

WA police said that after extensive investigation by Southern Cross and Missing Persons Unit, the man has been identified as Paul Lubrano, 44 years, of Alstonville, New South Wales.

Mr Lubrano was found in a tent in bushland near Karalee Dam on 3 November 2005 by a man walking his dog.

He had no identification on him and an autopsy failed to ascertain his cause of death.

Despite their efforts, police were unable to identify the man until now.

A call to Crime Stoppers and liaison with other Australian police agencies finally led to the possible identification of the mystery man.

Dental tests and DNA have now confirmed his identity.

Mr Lubrano was reported missing by his wife in March 2002, and was known to enjoy travelling and spending time in the bush.

The circumstances surrounding his death are unknown, but his death is not being treated as suspicious. WA’s Missing Persons Unit will prepare a report for the Coroner.
