Lookout car park to be closed for Surf Reserve dedication day

The car park at Pat Morton lookout on Lennox Headland will be closed to public vehicles on Saturday, 16 February, 2008, from 5.30am until 2pm in readiness for the dedication ceremony of the Lennox National Surfing Reserve which will take place from 11am.

Parking in the Pat Morton lookout car park will only be permitted for VIPs, staff and event organisers.

There will be a public drop-off area inside the entrance of the lookout on the side of the Coast Road. Shuttle buses will be operating from the Rural Fire Service shed at Williams Reserve, Lennox Head, and from Skennars Head sports field car park for the public. Buses will be running every 15-20 minutes from 10am-1pm to and from the lookout.

Motorists are advised that the speed limit along this section of the Coast Road will be reduced to 40km/h throughout the day. Delays are to be expected and motorists are requested to exercise patience and caution and be aware of high pedestrian activity in the vicinity.

Guests at the dedication will include the State Minister for Lands, Tony Kelly, and the Federal Minister for Ageing and Member for Richmond ,Justine Elliot, along with past and present world surfing champions, the Mayor and Councillors.

National Surfing Reserves recognise sites of cultural and historical significance in Australian surf culture. They acknowledge the surfing way of life and link past, present and future generations with our oceans, waves and beaches. Significantly for our community, Lennox is the fourth national surfing reserve to be dedicated.
