Lennox Head goes into bat for Williams Reserve

Lennox Head residents are gearing up to save their ’spiritual sporting home’, Williams Reserve.
Residents fear that Ballina Shire Council’s long-term development plans will result in sport not being played on the reserve.
The Lennox residents support the development of the new Community Centre alongside the reserve, but they do not want to see sport eventually banned from the reserve.
Sport has been played on Williams Reserve for at least 30 years, and it was developed as a community project.
A ‘Help Save Williams Reserve’ public celebration will be held on Saturday, March 1, from 11.30am until 1pm (rain, hail or shine).
“We want you to show everybody just what a great place Williams Reserve is,” a spokesman said.
“Wear your favourite sporting colours, grab a ball or just bring a chair and watch the world go by.
“It’s your village, your sport, your say.”
The alcohol-free event will include a free sausage sizzle, free soft drinks, free entertainment and a free jumping castle for the kids.
The celebration is being organised by the Lennox Head Combined Sports Association, which is made up of:
Lennox Head Golden Oldies
Lennox Head Junior Rugby Union Club
Lennox Head Junior Rugby League Club
Lennox Head Senior Rugby Union Club
Lennox Head Fishing Club
Lennox Head Cricket Club
Lennox Longboarders
Lennox Ballina Boardriders (Le-Ba)
Lennox Head-Alstonville Surf Lifesaving Club
