Sara Tindley to perform at Women’s Day celebration
Local musician Sara Tindley will be the guest performer when Ballina RSL Club hosts the annual International Women’s Day celebration on Tuesday, March 11.
Sara, pictured, who will perform at this year’s East Coast Blues and Roots Festival at Byron Bay, has released two albums.
Ballina Shire Council, in partnership with the NSW Office of Women, is again co-ordinating the celebration luncheon.
The theme for International Women’s Day this year is Women of Salt & Earth — celebrating ‘100 years of women in paid and unpaid work’.
“Our aim is to particularly recognise the countless contributions women have made towards improving workplaces and working conditions, as well as their tireless volunteering work which has contributed to the growth of more vibrant and robust communities,” said event co-ordinator Jane Laverty, Ballina Shire Council’s Community Economic Development Officer.
“International Women’s Day is an event celebrated around the globe and is an opportunity to think about those women who have played a part in shaping the world we live in today, to reflect on where we have come from and our future.
“Last year, 282 women attended the luncheon celebration and the feedback during and after the event was extremely positive.”
This celebration will showcase some of the region’s local women, their achievements and inspiring stories. There will also be a lunch prepared by award-winning chef Gerhard Spatz, heritage displays and prizes to be given away.
“Ladies, treat yourself to a day out in great company, you deserve it!” said Mrs Laverty.
