Lismore-to-Ballina paddle will be a fund-raiser
Fancy a paddle from Lismore to Ballina? If so, the Far North Coast Canoe Club’s 6th Paddle for Life fundraising event, supported by local businesses and community organisations, could be for you.
The Paddle for Life will raise money for two local charities, the Summerland Early Intervention Program and the Southern Cross LADS.
Paddlers will leave Lismore in kayaks and canoes at 8am on Saturday 19th April and finish at Ballina around noon on Monday 21st April. This is a community event for all ages – fun, with great catering, and safe with SES support. There will be a prize of $50 for the most deserving school-aged paddler or team.
Cost of entry is $60 per single boat and $120 for a double craft, plus $20 insurance for each person who is not a member of a canoe club. Each paddler is encouraged to fund-raise by selling raffle tickets to family and friends to make the paddle a real success. Tax deductible donations can also be made to Paddle for Life which is a registered charity.
Now is the time to hop onto the website and register for this year’s event at www.paddleforlife.com. For further information please call Chris or Robyn on 6621 3296(W) or 6628 2121 (H).
Summerland Early Intervention Program (SEIP) provides essential support for children from birth to age 5 with developmental delays and disabilities. Educational and therapy programs such as physiotherapy, speech therapy, gross and fine motor skills are delivered at the centre and local pre-schools. SEIP has been helping children for over 20 years. Last year 140 families were supported, for each child to reach their maximum potential.
Southern Cross LADS was formed after the tragic death of four young men in a traffic accident. The goal of Southern Cross LADS (Learn About Driving Skills) is to develop a Driver Education Facility in the Northern Rivers to educate all drivers about safe, responsible and competent driving. The aim is to permanently reduce trauma and deaths from road accidents, with a focus on learner and provisional licence holders.
