Petrol stations taking part in mobile phone recycling
Handing in your redundant CDMA mobile phone handset for recycling is now as simple as a trip to fill up your car with petrol.
Caltex Alstonville and Caltex Big Prawn Ballina are just two of 27 petrol stations in northern New South Wales wwhich have become an official collection point for MobileMuster, the official recycling program of them mobile phone industry.
Recycling tubes are prominently displayed in store and people can drop off their old mobiles including redundant CDMA mobile phones, batteries, chargers and accessories.
Shon Trim, Caltex Retail/Data Manager, says participating Caltex stations are proud to be part of the MobileMuster program.
“The closure of the CDMA network in on 28 April will mean many local residents need to replace their mobile phone. It is important that as a community, we don’t leave our old and unused phones lying around at home and in work drawers,” said Mr Trim.
Rose Read, Recycling Manager of the Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association (AMTA) official recycling program, MobileMuster, says the program is delighted to have Caltex Alstonville become an official collection point.
“It is a win-win situation. If Alstonville residents recycle their old mobile phones, batteries, chargers and accessories they will be reducing the demand on natural resources, saving energy, avoiding greenhouse gas emissions and helping protect the planet,” she said.
“With Caltex becoming an official MobileMuster collection point, we can prevent more mobiles from ending up in landfill.
“Also mobile phones contain may useful metals like gold, silver, copper and plastic that can be recovered. The CDMA phone that you are using today could be part of a plastic fence post that you are installing next year.”
