Schools have a week to apply for computer funding
The Member for Page, Janelle Saffin, is reminding secondary schools they have until the end of next week to apply for funding in the first round of the National Secondary Schools Computer Fund.
Ms Saffin says the Rudd Labor Government is investing $1 billion over four years in the Digital Education Revolution, to improve secondary school student access to world-class information.
Through the National Secondary Schools Computer fund, the Government will provide $900 million for new or upgraded information and communications technology for secondary students in Years 9 to 12.
Schools are able to apply for up to $1 million from the fund, dependent on enrolment and need, and they’ll be able to purchase computers, intereactive whiteboards, data projectors, digital cameras and other technologies.
The first $100 million from the Fund will be directed to the most needy schools by June this year.
Applications opened early this month and close on April 4.
Ms Saffin said the second round of funding will be open to all Australian secondary schools in July 2008.
