Tony Zann’s weekly fishing report

Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop says quite a few bream and flathead have been around in the lower reaches, which are stained with local run-off.

Quite a few mud crabs around in the lower river and North Creek.

Plenty of tailor on the beaches with some bream around the walls.

Whiting and flathead in good numbers down along South Beach.

No reports from outside but there were mackerel in good numbers before the rain started.

Very ordinary conditions at Evans Head through the week with well over 350mm of rain since Sunday but weather at last clearing on Friday morning.

River quite murky but should clear quickly because rain was mainly coastal.

Swell is only about 1m on the beach up to Salty Lakes but you can see it’s quite wild out on the horizon.

Beach is still looking quite good with birds diving beyond the shore break.
