Former Ballina man honoured for police service

Former Ballina man Greg Bishop has been honoured for his service to the Queensland Police Force.

Senior Sergeant Bishop was awarded the Australian Police Medal by the Queensland Governor, Quentin Bryce (who will be the next Governor General) at a ceremony at Government House in Brisbane.

Greg’s mother, Trish Bishop, of Ballina, attended the investiture.

The citation read: For dedication to general duties policing and for his success and effectiveness in working in partnership with community groups within the South Brisbane area, and for contributing significantly to the co-ordination of policing activities at numerous state, national and international events, including the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and the 2001 Goodwill Games.

Snr Sgt Bishop completed his HSC at Ballina High School and joined the Queensland police force in 1979.

He is officer in charge of the Dutton Park Police Station in the Gabba area of Brisbane.

Trish said Snr Sgt Bishop’s family are very proud of his achievements.
