Poker comp offers trip to Vegas with Warnie
The Ballina Golf and Sports Club has seen many champions use its facilities over the past 40 years but this Saturday night could see it launch the career of another champion, but not in the sport you may think.
The World Series of Poker has become one of the largest tournaments in the world in the past five years. It’s also by far the richest.
Last year the winner of the tournament collected $US8,250,000. Australia’s own Joe Hachem from Melbourne won $US7,500,000 back in 2005.
This Saturday night at 7.30pm the Ballina Golf and Sports Club will be giving local residents their shot at qualifying to play in what has been labelled the greatest poker tournament in the world.
A regional series of poker tournaments are being held across NSW in April, May and June with the eventual winner receiving a $20,000 trip to Las Vegas with none other than Shane Warne, pictured, as your host.
The tournaments have a buy-in fee of $30, however the Ballina Golf and Sports Club winner will receive a $1770 Gold Coast prize package to take his or her place in the 18-man final at Twin Towns Club Banora on June 14 to decide who will travel with Warnie to Las Vegas.
For more details the Ballina Golf and Sports Club can be contacted on (02) 6686 2766.

What was wrong with the poker that was being run there. It was one of the best on the north coast now it has been cancelled for a one off event and we the people of Ballina and the Northern Rivers region are not happy at all. I personally will not attend and everyone i know will not either
