Blind date resulted in a 50-year marriage

Congratulations to East Ballina couple John and Victoria Kennedy, who today celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

The Kennedy’s family and friends gathered at the Lennox Head Bowling Club to mark their April 19 anniversary.

John said he went on a blind date in Broken Hill and realised that he had met Victoria a year before.

True love blossomed from then on, and the couple married in Broken Hill in 1958.

Among the guests at their anniversary celebrations were their five daughters – Cathy, Fiona, Madeline, Marie and Helene – and their 11 grandchildren.

The couple lived in Sydney for 40 years before moving to Ballina seven years ago.

Daughter Marie said John and Victoria were very community-minded, being involved in St Vincent de Paul, Probus, the View Club and U3A.
