Lennox Landcare to resume Boulder Beach work
Lennox Head Landcare is recommencing weekend working bees on Sunday the 27th April at Boulder Beach.
Newcomers are encouraged to come along and find out what landcare on the coast is all about.
The focus of this first Sunday event will be to give newcomers an opportunity to learn a little of the recent history of the site and to see the progress being made.
The techniques used to manage the major weeds will also be demonstrated so that people can gain an understanding of the work usually carried out by landcare volunteers.
The aim is to provide a greater opportunity for people to volunteer their time to participate in the rehabilitation of the large areas of degraded vegetation along the local coastline.
Mid-week events are reasonably well-attended but more people are always needed at anytime.
At Boulder Beach the impact of regular working bees by volunteers, supported by professional regenerators and work program teams, is now resulting in significant progress being made toward controlling weed species and restoring the native plant communities.
Unfortunately though, there is still a long way to go, with many seedlings always to be planted and a continuing need to ensure weeds remain suppressed.
The need for more volunteers to undertake this work is vital.
Those interested should turn up at the Boulder Beach Coast Road car park at 8.30am.
The activity will finish at 10.30 am.
Be prepared for a walk through the rainforest so please wear a hat and sturdy footwear and bring water to drink. All other equipment will be provided.
