East Ballina ‘postie’ Alison honoured for her charity work
East Ballina Post Office licensee Alison Campbell has been honoured by Australia Post for her charity work.
Alison has been named a winner of the Australia Post Community Champion Award for her dedicated involvement with Animal Rights and Rescue Group.
Alison volunteers her time making dog coats to sell and raise much-needed funds for the group.
Generally Alison will sew on average about 150 dog coats each year.
Launched in 2005, the Community Champion Award recognises Australia Post staff, contractors and licensees who actively devote their spare time to volunteer for a charity or community organisation.
Staff members are invited to apply for the award, and each recipient of the award will receive $1000 to donate to their chosen charity or community organisation and a $100 gift voucher for their own use.
Alison says it was the thought of helping to raise money for the non-profit organisation that made her undertake the voluntary role at the group.
“Knowing that my small contribution has raised funds for the group to build a shelter instead of housing animals at volunteers’ houses is rewarding,” she said.
Australia Post Country North area manager Marie Nebauer said that with so many outstanding applications received from staff, contractors and licensees across the country, it was great to see a member of our local area recognised.
“Alison’s degree of involvement in the community is impressive and her commitment to the Animals Rights and Rescue Group is outstanding,” Marie said.
“She is such a great example of commitment, passion and community spirit.
“She is an inspiring and worthy winner.”
Alison will, of course, donate the $1000 cheque to the Animal Rights and Rescue Group.
