Wardell principal attends induction conference
The high calibre of leaders in local public schools has been praised by the Department’s Acting Director-General, Peter Riordan.
“The strength of school leadership has been boosted by 80 new principals, who attended a principals’ induction conference recently in Sydney,” Mr Riordan said.
Wardell Public School Principal, Peter Flannery, joined colleagues leading schools from Barrenjoey to Barellan and Yetman to Yagoona.
“The principal’s role as the educational leader of a school has never been more crucial,” Mr Riordan added.
“Through their leadership, principals directly influence the well-being and educational outcomes of all their students.
“Management skills are developed in principals by the Department to help them encourage, motivate and inspire students, staff and local school communities.
“One of NSW public education’s greatest assets is the strength of its school leadership, and this latest group of principals will undoubtedly continue that tradition in local schools across the State.”
Those who completed the induction course join more than 2500 public school educators who have completed leadership programs in the past two years.
“Deepening the understanding of accountabilities is also a major focus of the courses, as is improving student outcomes by using a wide range of educational data,” Mr Riordan said.
“Leading a school is a challenging, but highly rewarding career, and the increasing level of applications highlights continued enthusiasm for principal positions in our public schools.
“The Department is committed to a leadership development strategy that focuses on identifying talented teachers with excellent potential and preparing them to effectively manage schools.
“This comprehensive strategy ranges from mentoring teachers in their first year of service, to providing $36 million a year for the NSW Institute of Teachers to monitor and improve the professional standards of teachers.”
