Ballina to mark National Tree Day
Ballina Shire Council and community groups are joining forces to plant trees on National Tree Day on Sunday, 27 July 2007.
Ballina Shire Council is sponsoring this year’s National Tree Day by supplying 2043 endemic plant species and mulch to schools and community groups in the shire.
Volunteers are welcome to join in and help out by planting a tree at a public location on the day.
“National Tree Day is very easy to get involved in, and even if you are new to planting trees, there will be help available on the day to show you how,” the council’s Natural Resource Extension Officer, James Brideson, said.
Ballina Shire Council is sponsoring four locations where the public can take part in tree planting on Sunday. These include:
- Angels Beach at East Ballina with the Angels Beach Dunecare Group, along the Coast Road overpass beach walking track near the beach. Park and walk from Silver Gull Drive to cross the overpass to the site. Planting from 9.00am-midday, with refreshments provided.
- Patches Beach Public Reserve at South Ballina with the Patches Beach Dunecare Group. Planting from 8.30am- midday.
- Tintenbar Community Hall off Tintenbar Road above the shops, Tintenbar, with the Emigrant Creek Landcare Group. Planting from 11:00am-2pm with a lunch time BBQ.
- Commemoration Park between Bentinck Street and North Creek, Ballina, with the Ballina Lions Club. Planting from 8.00am -9.30am.
“It would be great if people could lend a hand on the day and plant a tree,” James said.
“Come along and join in the fun.”
Please wear a sunhat, sunscreen, closed shoes and if able, bring gloves and a trowel or bucket.
