Ballina artist picks up second in Elevation Youth Art Prize
Artists young and old and the Northern Rivers community packed out Vivid Gallery in Lennox Head last Thursday evening to enjoy the Official Opening of the Inaugural Elevation Youth Art Prize.
Five young artists, ranging in age from 15 to 21, were awarded for their works.
Eighteen-year-old Elke Jacobsen, of Ballina, won the second prize of $700 for her work “Scanning”.
“I was surprised and honoured,” said Elke, pictured.
“It was a great opportunity for me and for youth art in general.
“The prizemoney is going to pay for a trip to Melbourne. I can’t wait.”
Of the five artists recognised at the event, two were from Ballina.
Local Stacey McCowan was also recognised with a Highly Commended Award for her work “The Gate”.
1st Prize - $2000
Nell Pearson for her painting “Hannah”. Nell is 19 years old and lives in Byron Bay. She is currently mixing with artists in Berlin. Nell’s parents, Leigh and Greg Pearson, accepted the first prize cheque on Nell’s behalf.
2nd Prize - $700
Elke Jacobsen for her work “Scanning” Elke, 18 years old, lives in Ballina.
3rd Prize
Kalinda Witchey for her painting “Untitled”. Kalinda, 15 years old, lives in Bangalow.
Highly Commended
Stacey McCowan for her painting “The Gate”. Stacey, 15 years old, lives in Ballina.
Maia Lambrechtsen for her work “Fragments”. Maia, 21 years old, lives in Cawongla.
