Climate change solutions on the agenda in Ballina
Sustainable businesses have lined up to present household solutions to climate change at the Local Action on Climate Change forum to be held in the Richmond Room, Regatta Avenue, Ballina, on Wednesday, September 3, at 6pm.
The free forum is open to members of the public looking for more information about what individuals and businesses can do to reduce their greenhouse emissions.
Ballina-based Eco Options and Pristine Publications will join Organoil and One Stop Green Shop to promote a wide range of low carbon emission approaches to building, renovating and general lifestyle.
Students from local schools will join adult education tutor, Sally Guildford, radio presenter Giovanni Ebono, B Ward candidate for The Greens, Jeff Johnson, and Dr John Kaye to outline a roadmap for living sustainably in a rapidly changing world.
Organised by Jeff Johnson, the forum is designed to provide a wide range of information and answer the questions on everyone’s mind regarding the impact of climate change.
· What difference can any single individual make?
· How will climate change affect our food supply and transport options?
· What lifestyles will be possible in a post-carbon world?
Organoil director, Andrew J Vickery, described his products as ‘conservation through preservation’. He said that by using plant-based oils to protect timber from the elements ‘you can extend the life of your most precious assests markedly, reducing the need to fell more trees’.
Tony Meldrum from eco-Options supports a wide range of community activities and focuses on water and energy-saving approaches to building and renovation.
One Stop Green Shop represents a range of small sustainable businesses, artists, film-makers and authors across the Northern Rivers and provides information and resources for business and consumers.
