Shelley and Paul Giltrap honoured for foster care work
A foster care couple from the Ballina area have been congratulated for their outstanding commitment to helping children and young people by Community Services Minister Linda Burney.
Shelley and Paul Giltrap were presented with medals to recognise their role as foster carers at a special celebration to mark Foster Care Week 2008, which runs from 14 to 20 September.
“Foster carers are the community’s unsung heroes, our ultimate volunteers,” Ms Burney said.
“I congratulate the award winners for opening their hearts and home to children who are unable to live with their families.
“Through their generosity, kids have been provided with much-needed stability, care and attention.”
All the carers award winners were nominated by NSW Department of Community Services Acting Regional Director, Northern, Morag MacSween.
“With four children of their own, Shelley and Paul Giltrap certainly have their work cut out for them,” Ms MacSween said.
“Nominated for their wonderful work with children with high needs, the couple cared for two babies with serious medical problems in the last year, and have been prepared to travel far and wide to take the babies to specialist appointments to make sure they get the best care.”
