Ben Crawford named in league’s Team of the Year

Northern Rivers Regional Rugby League Team of the Year selectors have recognised the class of young Ballina Seagulls player Ben Crawford by naming him in the Retravision Northern League top team for 2008.

Phillip Silver wins the Ballina Shire mayoral race

Phillip Silver has won the race to become Ballina Shire’s first popularly-elected mayor.
As incumbment mayor, Cr Silver went into last Saturday’s local government election under threat from Cr Sharon Cadwallader.
However, Cr Silver polled 7765 first-preference votes, ahead of Cr Cadwallader’s 6514.

Ballina Shire teams win three rugby premierships

Ballina Shire rugby teams have won three Far North Coast premierships, headed by the Lennox Head Trojans’ great win over Coolangatta Tweed in Saturday’s grand final at Oakes Oval, Lismore.
It was a remarkable turnaround for Lennox, who finished last in the 2007 season.
The Trojans beat Coolangatta Tweed 23-15 in Saturday’s decider.

Jacqueline is our new bronzed aussie

Ballina Shire has a new bronzed Aussie — Paralympic swimmer Jacqueline Freney, of Skennars Head.
The 16-year-old has completed her swimming commitments at the Beijing Paralympic Games, winning bronze in each of her three events.
Jacqueline kicked off her Games bid with third in last week’s 100m freestyle.
