Ballina’s redeveloped skate park opens for Fair Go Festival
Ballina Shire Council is pleased to announce the opening of the Ballina Skatepark redevelopment at Missingham Park.
The $250,000 project has now been completed, enabling the park to be officially reopened by Ballina Shire Mayor Phillip Silver on Saturday 11 October, coinciding with the Fair Go Skateboarding Festival.
The extensions of the Ballina Skatepark have seen the addition of a deeper closed bowl and further street elements, expanding upon the existing three open bowls and street courses.
The redevelopment was designed by Convic Design Pty Ltd, following extensive consultation with the skating community and stakeholder groups.
Tenders were called for in mid-2007, with the project being awarded to Concrete Skate Parks Pty Ltd, commencing construction in June 2008 with completion in early October.
“The extensions have greatly improved the facility and are sure to be well-received by our local skating community. I’m delighted to be able to officially open the project in time for the 2008 Fair Go Skateboarding Festival,” Cr Silver said.
The Fair Go Skateboarding Festival will commence at 9:30am, following the official opening of the extensions to Ballina Skatepark by the Mayor at 9am on Saturday 11 October.
There are prizes and giveaways on offer, with open events for men, women and youth. More information about the competition can be found at www.fairgoskate.com.au

This is a great story and a great initiative on the part of the council. I’m over 60 and this park will only benifit me, when I walk past it and see the amazing feats these young people do on their boards, skates and bikes, that never ceases to fasinate me. Thankyou Council and thanks to all of the young who use the park, and give me great pleasure watching you do your stuff. David
