Alstonville-Wollongbar bypass progress outlined
The Alstonville-Wollongbar bypass could be completed by the end of 2010, a meeting of the Alstonville-Wollongbar Chamber of Commerce has been told.
RTA representatives Lindsay Nash and Sonia Williamson attended the meeting.
The chamber reported that key aspects of the bypass progress include:
The purchase of the properties required has been undertaken.
The tenders have been issued. They involve a construct-only contract for the bypass with the exception of the Wardell overpass, which is a design and construct tender.
A complete audit has been completed for the RTA – this includes noise consultancy, Aboriginal consultancy, flora and fauna consultancy.
Tenders are due at the end of November, but the meeting was told that a long process will ensue.
Possible start early 2009. Work to be completed end of 2010 (80-week contract with an expected 30 per cent extension in time for wet weather.
Standard bitumen finish is applied first, with a new ‘noiseless’ finish applied 12 months later (to allow for slight settlement).
Site visits during construction for community groups will be available.
