Fine food on the menu at Rivafest

The best of local cuisine will be on the menu at ‘Eat Street’ at this year’s Ballina Rivafest, on Sunday, November 30.

Eat Street is a designated food and beverage area showcasing delicious regional cuisine from seven local Ballina Shire restaurants and cafes.

“This year’s Rivafest theme is ‘riva of life’ and Eat Street will showcase the rich abundance of ingredients within our region,” said Liz Shepherd of Ballina Shire Council’s Rivafest Management Team.

“Whatever takes your fancy, event goers will be able to delight their senses in a unique and affordable culinary experience, from fresh local produce and seafood to contemporary and international cuisine.”

Hungry? How about an Eat Street $5 dish from Boardwalk, Vietnamese style fried snapper and spanner crab cake, green paw paw and shallot salad or a $10 dish from Blackboard at the Beach, a Juniper berry crusted kangaroo loin, beetroot relish, potato and radicchio salad.

As part of the celebrations, the kitchen maestros of Eat Street will battle it out from 1.30pm to be named Ballina Rivafest 2008 Signature Dish competition winner.

Chefs from the seven participating stalls will be asked to put their imagination and culinary skills to the test by presenting one of the dishes on offer for the Signature Dish of the day.

Credited food critic Simon Thomsen from Sydney Morning Herald’s Good Food Guide will judge the competition and will be looking for the standout dish that captures the essence of Ballina Shire and the quality and freshness of our local produce.

“With seven imaginative chefs from around the globe who have a combination of international experience and exposure working for a number of world-wide premier kitchens under renowned chef extraordinaires, this competition will see the stakes set high for a winner to take this esteemed award,” Ms Shepherd said.
