Kids’ lanterns will light up Rivafest
A committed group of creative children from Holy Family and Ballina Public schools have been hard at work preparing for a magical parade at this year’s Ballina Rivafest, Sunday 30 November.
As the sun goes down and twilight approaches, the scene will be set for festival revellers to pull up a piece of grass or cruise riverside and be wowed by an evening of pure enchantment as a snaking parade of local kids proudly dangle their handcrafted lantern creations along the riverbank, the result of many dedicated hours of work.
Mentored by artisans of Light n Up Productions of Lismore in the weeks leading up to Ballina Rivafest, over 50 kids have been busily fashioning hand-made rice-paper lanterns in time for the inaugural Little Critter Lantern Parade at 7:30pm, leading the Fire Show Spectacular.
Children will also have the opportunity to participate in lantern painting workshops between 4pm and 6pm on site at the festival for $10 per child.
Each child will get to keep their very own lantern and also participate in the Little Critter Lantern Parade.
The parade will be followed by a bunch of talented and highly skilled Northern Rivers kids as young as 10 years old, from Inspired Youth Performing Arts in a blazing fire twirling and circus show, all to the beat of a tribal theme.
The fireworks finale will explode at 8.45pm.
