Market stalls galore for Alstonville and Ballina

There’s a big weekend of markets in Ballina and Alstonville, and it might be the ideal opportunity to pick up a unique Christmas gift.

The usual East Ballina Lions-organised Ballina market will be held at the Canal Road grounds on Sunday, while in Alstonville, there will be a first, with the Lismore Car Boot Market coming to town.

In Ballina, market organisers have made a special date with Santa, who has assured them that he will be there for the children to talk to and they will be preparing a special area where he can have a chat to all the children.

After they have told Santa their wish list, the kids can try out the fun giant worm.

There will be lots of gift ideas at the market, along with fresh produce, Lions Christmas cakes and Christmas trees.

The last three months have seen at least 80 stalls at the market with record numbers of people browsing through the stalls and enjoying the variety of goods that have been offered for sale.

The East Ballina Lions will be running their Cafe Under the Trees where you can relax with local coffee and dutch pancakes topped with fresh fruit and cream or lunch from the BBQ.

In Alstonville, Sunday’s car boot market will be at the Alstonville Showground.

Normally, the Car Boot Market operates on the first and third Sundays of each month, but it is not allowed to operate at Lismore Shopping Square on the third Sunday in December as the shopping centre requires the space for Christmas shopper parking.

“That leaves a lot of stallholders with nowhere to go, especially those who have things that need to be under cover, like second-hand books, records, art, antiques and collectables,” organisers said.

“The Alstonville Showground committee is happy to come to the rescue, offering an alternative under-cover venue for those stallholders.

“Showground committee president Greg Gordon is delighted that the facilities can be put to good use. He says everyone wins – the committee benefits from the income, the facilities are used, the stallholders get to have their market, and plateau residents can enjoy a bonus market in their own locality.”
