Heart Foundation Walking group set up in Lennox Head

There is now a great way to get active and meet people in the Lennox Head area and it’s fun, free and easy.

Heart Foundation Walking is Australia’s largest network of free community-based walking groups, led by Volunteer Walk Organisers.

The Lennox Walkers group meet at 6.30am every Friday at the Lennox Head Surf Club.

“Heart Foundation Walking makes regular physical activity enjoyable and is suitable for a wide range of ages and fitness levels. Apart from the health aspects of walking, the social aspects are also wonderful,” said Walk organiser Liz Griffiths.

“Subject to the tides, we usually walk along our beautiful beach or headland.

“Everyone in the group walks at their own pace and no one is ever left to walk on their own.

“We have all become great friends and meet socially on other occasions.

“After our walk we all gather at ‘Blackboard’ for coffee and a light breakfast and, of course, a continuing chat.”

Tony Thirlwell, Heart Foundation CEO-NSW, said: “Walking is a simple, inexpensive, low-impact exercise, which also offers great potential health benefits.

“It helps manage body-weight, blood pressure and cholesterol and can lessen the effects of stress.”
