An interview with Dorothy the Dinosaur as she heads to Ballina

dorothyThe new Dorothy the Dinosaur Show — the smash-hit television show seen in over 21 countries around the world — has now been brought to the theatre stage and will be performed at the Ballina RSL Club on April 22.

Children worldwide have been engaged, enchanted and entertained by Dorothy the Dinosaur, Wags the Dog, Henry the Octopus, Captain Feathersword, Fairy Clare and Fairy Larissa’s adventures and songs.

The show stars Dorothy the Dinosaur, a graduate capital of RADD (The Royal Academy of Dinosaur Dancing!).

Dorothy took time out from her busy schedule to answer a few questions for Ballina Info’s younger readers:

WHAT IS THE NEW DOROTHY SHOW ABOUT?

This brand-new show has been written by Anthony the blue Wiggle, who also produced the music. There is a little story line that includes my friends Captain Feathersword, Wags the Dog, Henry the Octopus, Don the postman and of course Fairy Clare and Fairy Larissa. We wanted this new show to take the beauty and the lush quality of the TV series and bring to the theatre stage. Of course there are some wonderful songs the rosy orchestra has recorded such as the delightful “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”, “Dr Knickerbocker” and we’ll dance a fairy jig with the fairy dance. It’s such an exciting new show, I can’t wait for children to see it.

YOU’VE RELEASED TWO DVDS, DOROTHY’S DANCE PARTY AND MEMORY BOOK AS WELL AS HAVING YOUR OWN TELEVISION SERIES. WHAT DO THE WIGGLES THINK ABOUT YOU BRANCHING OUT ON YOUR OWN?

They’re very happy for me to sing and dance across Australia with some of my friends! I love travelling and meeting new friends and the TV show has been seen all across Australia on ABC and what is just as exciting is that my show is seen in 104 countries across the world. From Canada to Africa to Scandinavia, children are doing the “Romp Bomp A Stomp!”

WILL YOU BE PERFORMING SONGS FROM THESE DVDS?

Yes, we will be performing over 12 songs including “Come on Let’s Jump”, “To have a tea party”, ”Quack, Quack, Quack” and  “Romp Bomp A Stomp” and we finish with a big celebration with “Lets’ have a party”.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE COLOUR ROSES?

I love all roses from Bella Vitas to Mother of Pearl to Sorrayas but the best type of roses is one that is given with love!

HOW OLD ARE YOU?

I am 5 dinosaur years old. Dinosaur years are a lot longer than human years.

FAVOURITE FOOD?

All types of roses as well as my signature dishes rosy posy soup, rose petal pie and a lovely cup of Rosy tea.

WHAT IS ON YOUR RIDER WHEN YOU ARE TOURING?

There is a big cast in my new show and so I’ve got fairy bread for Fairy Clare and Fairy Larissa, vegetables for Captain Feathersword (sailors eat vegetables to prevent scurvy), juicy bones for Wags the Dog, seaweed pie for Henry the Octopus, a meat pie for Don the postman and lots of Roses and Rosy tea for me!

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT TOURING THE REGIONAL AREAS?

Australia is such a beautiful country and I am so lucky to travel around and see everything. Of course I get to meet the friendly families that live in regional Australia. It’s exciting to bring the show that’s been seen in Quebec to local towns and cities.
