Six schools in the Ballina Shire area will share grants totalling more than $1 million under the National School Pride program.
The allocations are:
- Alstonville High School $200,000
- Alstonville Primary School $200,000
- Ballina High School $200,000
- Ballina Primary School $150,000
- Lennox Head Primary School $150,000
- Southern Cross School, East Ballina $200,000
- Fernleigh Public School $50,00
- Rous Public School $75,000
The grants were announced by Member for Page Janelle Saffin, who said that 65 schools in the Page electorate will receive a total of $8,372,000 for minor infrastructure and refurbishment projects under Round One of the National School Pride (NSP) program.
Ms Saffin said the schools would receive amounts from $25,000 to $325,000 under the NSP program, which is the first phase of the Rudd Government’s $14.7 billion Building the Education Revolution investment.
“Whenever I visit local schools, the message I have heard loud and clear is the need for urgent maintenance funding,” she said.
“The $1.3 billion National School Pride program will deliver the much-needed funding for school maintenance projects while also providing a boost to the local economy.
“It is great to see our schools and community benefit in this way from the Government’s investment in vital school infrastructure and local jobs.”
Construction and maintenance work will commence as soon as possible, with many National School Pride projects planned to begin this month.
“I encourage schools who did not receive funding in Round One to submit applications for Round Two of the funding, which closes on 8 May, 2009,” Ms Saffin said.
