Big crowds commemorate Anzac Day
The Anzac Day tradition is alive and well — and apparently growing, judging by the crowd at today’s march in Ballina.
River Street was packed from Martin Street right through to the RSL Club as hundreds of men, women and children lined the march route.
It was a perfect day for the march, with fine weather but mild temperatures.
Returned servicemen and women led the march, followed by a strong representation of district school children.
At the Commemoration Service at the Cenotaph, hundreds of people listed as Ballina RSL Sub-branch president Mac McCallum led the service.
Army, navy and air force representatives read prayers, and a special highlight was Commemoration Address by Southern Cross K-12 student Kylie Izzard.
Ms Izzard reflected on what Anzac Day meant to her, and her speech was warmly accepted.
