Not-for-profit group offers new aged care program
The Whiddon Group’s Home Independence Program is now open for business in Ballina Shire, and is helping older people to live safely and independently in their own homes.
The program run by the not-for-profit group provides a broad range of services for clients, such as personal care assistance, housekeeping, home maintenance, home modifications, nursing care, transportation and meals.
Eighty-six-year-old long-time Kyogle resident, Betty Rolfe, is currently benefiting from the Home Independence Program, which was organised for her through CACPs (a Federally funded community aged care package).
“I had a bad fall and needed to be hospitalised in Ballina,” Mrs Rolfe said.
“I am now home again, and very grateful for the care that I am receiving from the Whiddon Group.
“A nice girl comes to my home every morning to help me with showering and dressing, and someone also comes once a fortnight to do my housework for me.
“I am lucky to have my daughters living locally, which is very helpful, but I also greatly appreciate the help I receive from The Whiddon Group staff. Their assistance allows me to continue to live a normal life at home, and makes my day a lot easier. I am very happy to recommend them.”
The Whiddon Group’s Director of Community Service, John Ashby, said: “We understand that older people want to prevent entry to a retirement village or nursing home for as long as possible. Our program allows clients to remain in their own homes, retain connections with their friends and local community, and significantly enhance their quality of life.”
Mr Ashby said each client received a care package that is tailored to their individual circumstances.
