Information session on Alstonville bypass to be held on May 28

The first community information session about the Alstonville bypass construction will be held on Thursday, May 28.

This will give local people the opportunity to meet the RTA project team and REED Construction to discuss the project.

To attend, you need to register by phoning 1800 074588.

Community information sessions will be held every four to six months and residents will need to register for each session.

The bypass will a six-kilometre road past Alstonville and Wollongbar, and include a one-kilometre east-bound overtaking lane.

The Federal Government is providing $102m in funding for the project, which is due to be completed by the end of next year, weather permitting.

An RTA spokesperson said the bypass will minimise delays on the Bruxner Highway between Ballina and Lismore and take highway traffic, including 700 trucks, off local roads.

“More than 14,000 vehicles a day travel on this section of the Bruxner Highway and this project will provide quicker travel times and better traffic flow for those motorists,” the spokesperson said.
