$2 million boost for Lennox Head Cultural and Leisure Centre
The Lennox Head Cultural and Leisure Centre received a funding boost last week when Anthony Albanese, Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Local Government, announced the Rudd Labor Government would offer $2 million towards the new centre.
The announcement was made by Minister Albanese with the Member for Richmond, Justine Elliot, and the Ballina Shire Mayor, Phillip Silver.
“The Lennox Head Cultural and Leisure Centre plan goes back nine years to 2000,”Mr Albanese said.
“The Rudd Government’s funding will ensure that this community vision can be realised.
“Federal funding for this $7.4 million Ballina Shire Council-managed project is part of our $800 million Community Infrastructure Program – the largest one-off investment in local infrastructure in Australia’s history.
“Through the Rudd Government’s economic stimulus plan, we are investing in major projects like this to support local jobs and economies during the global recession.”
The new facility will provide:
A combined community and sports hall, library, youth centre, child-minding area and meeting rooms
Space for sporting events such as basketball and netball
A dedicated youth activity space and adjacent skate park catering to much-needed activities for the children and youth of the community
Space to accommodate 750-1000 people and be able to cater for large community gatherings and functions, as well as exhibitions, school holiday programs and community concerts and theatre productions.
