It’s community tree-planting day this coming Sunday between 8.30 and 12.30 at Flat Rock when our local Planet Ark National Tree Day is being held.

Scheduled in most locations for early August, Angels Beach is holding the day earlier this year.

“Helpers should come to Flat Rock and plant trees whenever they wish between 8.30 and 12.30,” Dunecare President Lee Andresen said.

“The planting site is right by the roadside; a Quickshade and Banner will mark the entry, next to the Amenities Block near Flat Rock Tent Park.

“People coming to Flat Rock for a surf that morning should throw old clothes and a pair of shoes in with the surfboard and wetsuit, and after they’ve surfed just walk down the road and plant some trees.

“The goal is to plant between 500 and 700 site-specific rainforest trees in a large cleared area east of the roadway between Tent Park and Surfing Beach Carpark.

“Ballina Shire Council supplies trees and mulch, and free drinks and bikkies will be served all the morning.

“All equipment is supplied – all you need do is dress suitably and join the event.”

it’s great to see the restoration of the vegetation quality, in this area, vastly improve over the years.
however, the same cannot be said for the tent park where the reversed has occured.
originally, campers & trees were compatible but every year more & more trees have disappeared for no apparent reason (accept for the recent gale).
is council going to invest in the restoration, of this grossly detoriated community asset, too?
