Ballina Shire lifesavers gain recognition

tanThey guard our beaches without fanfare, so it’s nice when our lifesavers get some recognition.

And here in Ballina Shire, our two clubs — Ballina Lighthouse and Lismore, and Lennox Head-Alstonville — have many dedicated members.

The quality of the service they provide was hiighted ghat the recent Far North Coast Awards of Excellence held at Yamba, when members of both clubs were honoured.

Heading the list was Lennox Head-Alstonville’s Tanyn Lyndon (pictured), who won a third successive Male Athlete of the Year award.

A summary of local winners is:

Stuart Wright – Junior Lifesaver of the Year (Ballina)

Tanyn Lyndon – Male Athlete of the Year (Lennox Head)

Rod Balkin – Training Officer of the Year (Ballina)

Ballina Lighthouse & Lismore SLSC – Surf Life Saving Club of the Year

Lennox Head-Alstonville SLSC – Education Club of the Year

Rhys Balkin – Highly Commended Cadet Lifesaver of the Year (Ballina)

Garry Murphy – Highly Commended Lifesaver of the Year (Ballina)

Ellie Leaver – Highly Commended Female Athlete of the Year (Lennox Head)

Madison Blue-Beckerleg – Highly Commended Female Athlete of the Year (Lennox Head)
