Ballina’s Kimberley Kampers a State business finalist
Ballina-based small business, Kimberley Kampers, has been named one of only five finalists in the MYOB Small Business Award category of this year’s New South Wales Telstra Business Awards.
The Telstra Business Awards is Australia’s largest, most prestigious small business awards program which recognises the courage and determination of Australia’s business-building entrepreneurs.
Telstra Country Wide Area General Manager, Michael Sharpe, said Kimberley Kampers joined an elite group of Australia’s best small and medium businesses, united through the national awards program.
“For 17 years, the Telstra Business awards have applauded and inspired the strength and spirit of Australia’s entrepreneurs as part of Telstra’s support for the engine room of the economy,” Mr Sharpe said.
“Kimberley Kampers, the market leader in off-road recreational accommodation, is a great example of the type of business we want to support.”
Inspired by successful European Designers/Manufacturers, Kimberley Kampers follows a design-led supply-chain strategy which is the key to their success.
Kimberley Kampers designs, manufactures, markets and distributes camper trailers, off-road caravans, modified long-wheelbase vehicles and roof-top tents with prices ranging from $2490 to $120,000.
With a goal to helping more people travel and discover Australia in the best off-road accommodation, Kimberley Kampers is demonstrating that quality manufacturing can thrive in regional centres.
The business has embraced new technology which sets it apart from its peers and enables greater market responsiveness.
Using customer feedback on purchases, internet marketing on changing needs and dealer feedback on special requests, Kimberley Kampers develops new designs tailored to changing market needs.
The company focuses its research and development on the use of new materials, incorporating energy-efficient and sustainable designs and materials wherever possible.
Kimberley Kampers is also doing its bit to better the industry and instigated special Certificate Level 3 Training courses in RV Manufacturing with the local TAFE.
They also practice multi-skilling by rotating skilled employees at all levels through different parts of the business.
Kimberley Kampers plans to expand its product range into lighter products designed for smaller 4WDs and design full motorhomes that are sustainable on and off-road.
The winners of the New South Wales awards will be announced on July 21 and the winners of each category will progress to the national awards to be announced in Sydney on August 20.
