Southern Cross School keeping Ballina Shire green

Southern Cross School students will add new life into the Ballina Shire for National Schools Tree Day on Friday, 31 July.

Students will spend the day getting their hands dirty, planting native Australian shrubs with Team Members from Bunnings Ballina, at the same time learning how such a small contribution can make a big difference.

Southern Cross School’s Tree Day is part of a larger national initiative enabling school communities to get involved in Australia’s biggest tree planting event.

Bunnings Team Members will help out on the day providing students with practical, hands-on learning experiences as well as making a valuable contribution to Australia’s natural environment.

Bunnings Ballina Store Manager Duane Hoare said that initiatives like these are the ideal way for Team Members to give something back to the Ballina Shire.

“The team enjoys helping out local schools and getting their hands dirty,” Mr Hoare said. “It’s great learning with and getting to know the local kids at a fun and interactive event.”

National Schools Tree Day is Australia’s largest community tree-planting event.

The day demonstrates to children how easy and fun it is to help our environment and aims to inspire, educate and encourage Australians to actively care for our unique land.

Since 2003 more than a million students have taken part in native tree planting activities within their school grounds and local neighbourhoods.
