Ballina SES to thank those who helped purchase new rescue truck

ballina1The Ballina Shire State Emergency Service new rescue truck was forced into service during the storms and flood in May.

The Isuzu truck replaced the old primary rescue vehicle, a 1984 Ford Cargo that had been purchased second-hand, but which served loyally until repair costs became exhorbitant.

Fund-raising by the Ballina SES took some 18 months, and many generous donations were received from the community and business houses. Assistance was also received from local service clubs.

“It is now time for the Ballina SES to publicly celebrate the commissioning of the vehicle, thank all those who donated monies, gave their time and efforts towards the purchase of this magnificent vehicle,” unit controller Gerry Burnage said.

“In order to accomplish this the Ballina SES is holding an open day on Saturday the 8th August, 2009, between 12 noon and 2pm at their Angels Beach Drive headquarters, where certificates and recognition awards will be given.

“Members of the public are encouraged to attend. The vehicle, its equipment and staff will be on display, as well as other equipment used by the State Emergency Service.”

A sausage sizzle will take place between 12 midday and 2pm.

“Once we had to hook up a trailer to someone’s car to respond to accidents, now we have this great truck, which seats seven people and has everything we need on board, even its own generator,” Mr Burnage said.

“This day will be our way of saying thank you to all those who contributed.”
