Melbourne Cup is coming to Ballina
The Ballina Jockey Club is delighted to announce that it has been selected as a host for the Melbourne Cup when it tours both New Zealand and Australia before arriving at Flemington on Tuesday 3 November for the 149th running of the Emirates Melbourne Cup.
The Ballina Jockey Club is amongst 23 destinations chosen to host this iconic trophy. The Cup itself will be arriving in Ballina on Sunday, October 4.
“The Melbourne Cup is an Australian icon, an event celebrated by the entire nation. We feel very privileged in having the Cup and bringing it to the community to highlight the significance of the Melbourne Cup and indeed racing in our community,” said Ms Sarah Wills Club CEO.
“The Ballina Shire Council and other community groups are working with us to ensure a wide community coverage of this event.
“This is a great opportunity for people to view the Cup and gain a better understanding of its significance.”
The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) successful locations were determined based on their impressive response to the brief and adherence to suggested guidelines, including the event schedule, community involvement and demonstrated benefits to the local area.
