Volunteers needed for helicopter doorknock appeal
This Sunday Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter holds its biggest annual fundraising appeal, and volunteer collectors are needed.
On Sunday, August 30, volunteer collectors will hit the streets in towns throughout the northern region, with an overall fundraising target of $150,000.
Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter General Manager Kris Beavis thanked the northern region community for its support over the last 27 years, and invited residents and businesses to lend their support to the service during Helicopter Awareness Week.
“On average the service completes six missions a week and so far we have carried nearly 6000 people, so Helicopter Awareness Week really represents a celebration of life”, said Mr Beavis.
“It’s all about raising awareness of the vital role the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter plays in the northern region, and how people can support the service.
“Our annual operating costs are now $5.5 million and we have to raise more than half from the community. Without this support the service wouldn’t exist.”
Donations to Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter can be made at any Westpac Bank, online at www.helirescue.com.au or by phoning 6627 4444 during business hours.
“We are encouraging those who want to lend a hand on Sunday to simply show up at their nearest collection centre at 9am Sunday Aug 30. The doorknock will only take a few hours,” Mr Beavis said.
