Fair Go skating event celebrates 10 years

fair go poster2On Saturday October 17 Ballina plays host to the annual Fair Go Skateboarding Festival.

This year is celebrating the event’s 10th birthday.

Fair Go has certainly come a long way from its humble beginnings in the Ballina Fair parking lot, to its newly expanded home at Missingham Skatepark.

The crowds have great views of some fantastic skating from the hill, and the enclosed bowl certainly added a new element to the competition last year.

Fair Go has become one of the key dates for young people and families not only in Ballina but throughout the North Coast region.

The competition has had an improved profile with coverage in SLAM magazine, which is Australia’s premier skateboarding magazine, as well as footage viewed by thousands over the internet.

The skill level has improved, with local as well as some of  Australia’s best sponsored skaters competing for a $2000 first prize.

This year the Bowl Jam is a cash-for-tricks event with $1000 up for grabs.

Not to mention winning a skydive from GoSkydive for the biggest air.

Men’s, women’s, 16 and under and 13 and under divisions all compete for a prize pool from skateboarding’s top brands. There are loads of giveaways for spectator too.

This year will be the first time an after party for over 18s will be held at the Ballina Hotel nightclub. There will be a couple of local bands playing, a skate movie premiere and loads of promotions as well. Everyone is welcome.
