History society celebrates 25th anniversary

100_2210Congratulations to the Richmond-Tweed Family History Society, which celebrated 25 years of activities at an anniversary lunch at the House With No Steps on Saturday 10 October 2009.

Fifty members attended the lunch to commemorate this significant milestone of the family research organisation which is based in Ballina.

Also in attendance was Don Page, Member for Ballina, who is the group’s first patron.

Marie Hart, a life member and founder of the group, was presented with a corsage. Mrs Hart is member number one and was joined in the cutting of the birthday cake by Andrew Donaghey, the newest member in attendance on the day (pictured).

An honorary fellow membership and a corsage was awarded to Jean Cummins for her dedication and years of hard work in maintaining the monthly trading table which helps raise funds for the organisation.

Twenty-five years is a long time for any organisation to be operating and the growth of the membership is a tribute to those early pioneer members who saw the need and worked so hard to establish and maintain a worthwhile and beneficial organisation for those members of the community who long to learn more about the history of their families.

Richmond-Tweed Family History Society meets monthly on the first Saturday at 2pm at the Players Theatre, Swift Street, Ballina. New members are always welcome.
