Positive Ageing Grants available for Ballina Electorate groups

Community groups and local governments in the Ballina electorate can apply for assistance for projects under the New South Wales Positive Ageing Grants.

The one-off grants of up to $50,000 are available to non-government and local government organisations to develop and implement creative and cultural projects for older people.

The grants program is aimed at supporting projects that promote active ageing, opportunities for lifelong learning and positive images of older people in the community.

All eligible parties are urged to submit applications for funding for projects that will help support local initiatives for older people.

Applied Research Grants are also available. Their purpose is to build the evidence base for policy and service development in the NSW Government-identified priorities on population ageing.

The funds will be made available through a tender application process. They will be for rigorously-evaluated intervention research to be progressed by consortia of academic researchers and human services. Research priorities include:

Participation by older people in the volunteer workforce of the NGO sector

Application of new information and communication technology to support social inclusion and participation of older people.

Applications for funding under both programs are now open and close on the 27th November 2009.

Application forms and guidelines for the Positive Ageing Grant are available from Don Page’s office at Shop 1, 7 Moon St, Ballina (Ph: 02 6686 7522) or can be downloaded from www.dadhc.nsw.gov.au

Details of the tendering process for the Applied Research Program are available at www.dadhc.nsw.gov.au or by contacting Sigrid Patterson, Director, Office for Ageing on 07 5569 3984.
