Alstonville holds 121st show
It’s show time in Alstonville this weekend, with organisers saying the 121st Alstonville Show, to be held on Friday and Saturday, is shaping up as the biggest for many years, despite the recent dry conditions.
Record entries have been received in many classes, and the ring events on Friday and Saturday are action-packed, with dog trials and a full horse program, among other activities.
Local school students will perform on the entertainment stage on Friday, and Garry the Magician will perform at regular intervals.
Saturday’s program includes stud beef cattle judging, a championship dog show, a two-ring hack show, palominos, quarter horses, ridden classes and showjumping.
The highlight, the Grand Parade, will be held about 2pm, followed by the official show opening by Federal Hotel publican Michael O’Connor, a strong supporter of the Alstonville Agricultural Society.
The Showgirl competition has attracted good entries, with five senior and six junior entrants. Winners will be announced after the opening on Saturday.
There will be all the fun of sideshow alley, and a Fire Show after dark, plus a whole lot more, including a monster truck display.
The show will finish on Saturday night, but the action at the Showground continues on Sunday with a free Campdraft Spectacular.
Admission prices: Adults $10; pensioners $6; students aged 12-17 $5; Under-12 free; family pass (two adults, four children) $25.
