Pick up a Christmas gift at the Sunday market
Stalls at the East Ballina Lions Market to be held on Sunday, November 15, at Canal Road, Ballina, are only $10, providing a great way to make some extra cash for Christmas.
If you have something to sell or would like to turn out all those pre-loved goods cluttering up the garage or the cupboards, the East Ballina Lions invite you to book a stall and join them at the market.
Bookings are already high and the Lions say it promises to be a bumper market.
For visitors to the market there will be a great range of products for sale and the opportunity to do some Christmas shopping, find a bargain for yourself or buy locally grown fresh produce.
The Cafe Under the Trees is becoming a place to meet with family and friends, to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee and something to eat from a range of food that should please everyone in the family. The parking is free and there are toilets available on the site.
The East Ballina Lions will have their recycling boxes out and ask market-goers to bring eyeglasses and hearing aids that they no longer use to the market to donate them to the Lions recycling program.
Last year 350,000 spectacles were sent overseas through this program, while others were sent to the Queensland Flood and to the Victorian Bushfire Relief funds.
Used stamps are sold, with the funds used to buy walkers for children with cerebral palsy.
This year’s Christmas stamps will feature three themes, figures from the Nativity, familiar symbols of the Christmas season and creatures from Christmas Island.
The Nativity issue features the Virgin Mary cradling her newborn son on the 50c stamp, while the $1.25 design depicts the Wise Men, Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar offering precious gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh to baby Jesus.
The designer is Mike Heine who has created a modern and highly colourful stamp issue reflecting the joyful celebration of Christmas.
Most homes will receive Christmas cards that are stamped and the East Ballina Lions ask people to take a few minutes to tear off the stamp, save it and bring it along to their barbecue stall at the market. Other articles recycled are mobile phones, corks and ring pulls.
